Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Gender Diverse Youth and You

This workshop will provide you with information and resources needed to help assist and properly address Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Gender Diverse Youth issues. Participants will explore challenges faced by LGBTQ+ youth population and provided with tools on how to effectively assist them work through these challenges. 
This workshop is taught via a combination of lecture, discussion, and practical exercises. 

Diversity Training for Educators

This workshop will provide educators with knowledge, information, and resources needed to provide a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ students. This workshop will discuss how to encourage inclusion for those across a wide spectrum of sexual and gender identities. This workshop is taught via combination of lecture and classroom discussion.

Diversity and Sensitivity in the Workplace

This workshop will provide employers and employees with knowledge, information, and resources needed to provide a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ persons. Participants will learn sensitivity tools to utilize in the workplace, discuss how they can encourage inclusion for those across a wide spectrum of sexual and gender identities, and gain knowledge of the benefits of a more inclusive environment. This workshop is taught via a combination of lecture, classroom discussion, and practical exercise. 

Emotional Intelligence

This workshop will cover the 5 main areas of emotional intelligence. Participants will learn the framework to recognize their own emotions and those of others, distinguish between different feelings and label them appropriately, use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and regulate emotions to adapt to their environment. This workshop will also explore how to utilize emotional intelligence to handle diversity and cultural sensitivities. This workshop is taught via a combination of lecture, classroom discussion, and practical exercise. Participants will also complete an Emotional Intelligence quiz.

Understanding Implicit and Explicit Bias

This workshop will educate participants on the dynamics of implicit and explicit bias and discuss how to recognize and set aside these bias patterns. Participants will learn practical strategies to minimize the impact of implicit and explicit bias and to become more inclusive. This workshop is taught via a combination of lecture, classroom discussion, and practical exercise.

Diversity Assessment

A comprehensive evaluation of your company’s policy and practices, as well as, culture and attitude around diversity. We will build a strategic plan needed to create an inclusive culture and improve the workplace experiences of minority groups.

Meet Courtney Murphy

Courtney Murphy is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from Georgia Southern University, finishing with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 2006.  Courtney joined the Atlanta Police Department in 2010. For the past 11 years she has served in many different units, including the Zone 5 Mobile, Gang and School Detective Units, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Liaison, and Homicide Detective.

In 2015, Courtney partnered with Atlanta Public Schools (APS) and created the first ever City-Wide Gay Straight Alliance. Courtney received her certification in Implicit and Explicit Bias training instructor and became a subject matter expert in the field of race, gender, and sexuality. During the civil unrest experienced in 2020, Courtney worked the frontline as a Civil Disturbance Unit supervisor.  She is currently assigned to the City of Atlanta Police Department Academy as the Recruit Unit Supervisor.
